Application Process

Eligible participants must be licensed physicians, nurse practitioners or physician’s assistants. Applications must be submitted via the online application. Upon acceptance to the program, the $15,500 tuition payment must be received before the initiation of the fellowship year.

California applicants may be eligible for a full scholarship. Upon acceptance to the TNT Program, a scholarship application will be sent with instructions for completion and submission for consideration by the California Department of Health Care Access and Information (HCAI).

Scholarship Opportunities

California Department of Health Care Access and Information (HCAI) Scholarship

Upon acceptance to our programs, a scholarship application will be sent with instructions for completion and submission for consideration by HCAI.

You must meet the minimum requirements to be considered:

  • Be currently employed or have accepted employment as a primary care provider (MD, DO, NP, PA, PharmD) in the following specialties: family medicine, internal medicine, OB/GYN or pediatrics; Or be employed or have accepted employment as a psychiatrist or psychiatry resident (PGY-2 – PGY-4).
  • Work at a qualifying practice site in a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC)/lookalike, Health Professional Shortage Area – Primary Care (HPSA-PC) or Primary Care Shortage Area (PCSA) in California.
  • Work at a practice site with at least 50 percent of patients from a medically underserved population (Medi-Cal, uninsured, or beneficiaries of another publicly funded program that serves patients who earn less than 250 percent of the federal poverty level).
  • Currently, serve or plan on serving children and youth 25 years of age or younger.

TNT fellowships conference

In partnership with UC Irvine School of Medicine, the Negeen Foundation invites pediatricians who are passionate about treating childhood anxiety to apply for one of four full-tuition scholarships supporting the Train New Trainers (TNT) Primary Care Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (PC-CAP) Fellowship, 2026 cohort.

The Negeen Foundation recognizes that addressing the childhood anxiety epidemic requires removing financial barriers for dedicated pediatricians seeking advanced training. These four scholarships will enable exceptional candidates to pursue specialized fellowship training in primary care-based child and adolescent psychiatry, without the burden of tuition costs.

As a Negeen Foundation Scholar, you will join a select group of clinicians dedicated to transforming how we address mental health in young people. You’ll gain the specialized knowledge and skills needed to make a meaningful difference in the lives of children and adolescents while contributing to advancing pediatric psychiatric care.

Minimum requirements to be considered for the Negeen Foundation scholarship:

  • Employed as a pediatrician
  • Currently serve children and youth 25 years of age or younger
  • Demonstrate strong motivation to treat anxiety disorders specifically in children and adolescents
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development in the field of pediatric anxiety disorders

The UC Irvine School of Medicine Train New Trainers (TNT) Primary Care Fellowships are honored to announce the establishment of the Derrick Phillip Christie Memorial Scholarship, created to support the next generation of primary care providers dedicated to mental health care.

Derrick’s life reminds us of the critical importance of accessible, compassionate mental health care and the vital role that primary care providers play in addressing the mental health needs of our communities. His memory inspires us to support those who choose to dedicate their careers to this essential field of medicine.

Scholarship Details

Award Amount: $15,500, full tuition for the Train New Trainers (TNT) Primary Care Psychiatry (PCP) Fellowship
Program Year: 2026 Cohort
Number of Awards: One scholarship available

Eligibility

We invite qualified primary care providers to apply for this meaningful opportunity to advance their training in psychiatric care while honoring Derrick’s memory. Ideal candidates will:

  • Be currently employed as a primary care provider (MD, DO, NP, PA) in one of the following specialties: family medicine, internal medicine or emergency medicine.
  • Demonstrate strong motivation to treat moderate and persistent mental health disorders.
  • Be committed to ongoing professional development in the field of mental health.
  • Work at a practice site with at least 50 percent of patients from a medically under-resourced population (i.e., Medi-Cal, uninsured).

In partnership with the Christie family, TNT is committed to ensuring that Derrick’s memory continues to positively impact mental health care for years to come.
