Michael Lang, MD, FACP, DFAPA

Bio

Michael Lang, MD, graduated from the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University in 2002. He then entered the combined internal medicine/psychiatry residency at Pitt County Memorial Hospital from 2002-07. From there, he accepted a joint appointment in medicine and psychiatry at ECU. He has served as a primary provider as well as a primary psychiatrist for the uninsured and chronically mentally ill in Eastern North Carolina. In 2015 he became the training director for the combined medicine/psychiatry residency. Clinical interests include functional neurological disorders and somatoform disorders, integrated primary care/psychiatry, resident education, & ECT clinical applications.

Dr. Lang has lectured regionally and nationally in primary care psychiatry as well as using psychiatric medications for chronic pain management. He has been an active member of the North Carolina Psychiatric Association, the American College of Physicians, and the Association of Medicine and Psychiatry, where he currently serves on the leadership council & is President-Elect. At present, Dr. Lang is the section head for Vidant’s ECT and TMS services. From April 2019 to March 2022, he served as vice-chair for the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine at ECU and Chief of Service for Psychiatry at Vidant Medical Center. In March 2022, he became Chair of the Dept of Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine at ECU Health. Dr. Lang is currently in his third year as adjunct faculty for the TNT PCP Fellowship.
